ROUTE 66’s NEWEST PICTURE BOOK REVIEW FROM AMAZON READER

This is the best and most fun ABC format book I have read from any recent publication. The classic ABC books are some of my favorites, Dr. Seuss and the Little Golden Books. However, this is a great themed ABC book that is enjoyable for kids and adults. My four boys loved it!

First, the amount of historical and geographical information packed in this book is nothing short of impressive. Annette Murray does an amazing job grabbing the reader's attention with the different words and names of fun stops, restaurants, and sights.

Second, the book is very educational. I have a few young readers and the book uses different words within the same letter to make the different sounds, the hard and soft sounds and the unexpected sounds like the "j" sound of "g." This is a great book for teaching reading.

Third, this book is extremely entertaining. If you have ever travelled Route 66 and stopped somewhere, it might be in this book. Also, the illustrator Joyce Cole does an incredible job. Her art is mesmerizing and inviting. This book is a top book of mine for 2023 out of the 40-50 books I read.

Most recent ABC books I have read have fallen flat and just try too hard to get the right words to fit the ABC format the theme. This one stands out among the crowd.

I strongly recommend you get this book, even if you are not familiar with Route 66. You will want to go after reading Murray's masterpiece.

REVIEWS

“Opening with a regional U.S. map that shows the winding path of Route 66 across eight states,
from Illinois to California, Murray’s book is an eclectic presentation of roadside sights
and a good basic guide to the American West.”

-Kirkus Review

"This book presents Route 66, the most famous road in the world, in a whimsical yet educational way. It takes great care with the history of the road and packs each page with details that appeal to the children in all of us. When young readers and listeners realize the landscape in this book is REAL, it's sure to inspire the next generation to see Route 66 for themselves."

- Rhys Martin, President of Oklahoma Route 66 Association, Inc., Member Route 66 Association, & Travel Writer and Photographer

“Annette LaFortune Murray has written a clever and engaging book that will inspire children of all ages to take a road trip on Route 66!  Using a variety of literary devices, the writing is fresh and fun. Accompanying the stylistic prose is warm and compelling imagery by Joyce Cole that demonstrates a real love for children and the Mother Road.”
